Roll for Initiative

Podcasting is a medium about which I know very little. My experiences with it are limited to being a guest on a couple of them. However, a lot of people enjoy them, so I thought I'd pass along a link to one specifically dedicated to AD&D. Called Roll for Initiative, new episodes are posted regularly and focus on a variety of 1e-related topics, with a special focus on the Greyhawk setting.

If you have some time to spare, drop by and give it a listen.

  1. Are there any other OSR podcasts? A quick search of iTunes turns up a lot of D&D podcasts, but nome that are clearly Old School focused.

  2. This is the first of its kind AFAIK. Introducing: Blackstone's Vault! A new segment on Roll For Initiative podcast!

Every other week, I will take you on a walk-through of an TSR AD&D/D&D module. I'll give hints and tips on how to use the module in you campaign.

Maybe even give you some insight on how I ran the module as well.

If I stick with a schedule of every two weeks, I have enough stuff to last a couple of years at least.

Right now I'll be sticking with TSR modules from the "Golden Age" of AD&D/D&D. Later episodes I'll cover some of the newer stuff that's come out related to the "Old School Gaming Renaissance" (Castles & Crusades, Hackmaster, OSRIC, Labyrinth Lord, etc.).

So, a little bit of old, a little bit of new, but all 100% Old School Gaming Goodness!

First segment will be in two weeks (episode 6)
I'm glad to be a part of it.

Thanks for the plug on the blog James!

May all your hits be crits!

  3. @blackstone Thanks for the info and best of luck with the podcast. I'm sure RFI's success will spawn many imitators.

  4. Vince and Jayson are the creators of the podcast. Little, ole me is just there because I was able to to twist their arm, er, convince them of my idea for a new segment.

Until then, we'll see how the feedback is after of couple of shows with my little bit.

May all your hits be crits!

  5. This is great! I hope we'll start to see more and more OSR podcasts (as soon as the old grognards figure out how to operate their computers ~hehehe). Here's a series of podcasts of some “actual play” in an old school dungeon:

And here's a round-up of interviews with some old-schoolers on general RPG podcasts:

  6. Thanks for the links. I always find AP very hard to listen to, but I really like the second link. I had found one of the podcasts listed there (The Game's the Thing).

I've started listening to RFI and look forward to catching up on the others.

Having done some podcasting I'll throw this out there - if there are any grognards interested in starting an old school podcast I'm willing to throw in what I know to help get them up off the ground. Folks can contact me through my Blogger profile.

  7. Thanks for listening to our podcast!

Blackstone has become the third co-host, so there's even more reason to listen now.

  8. Also, since you were wondering, another OSR podcast has popped up, a Classic D&D podcast, called "Save or Die!" Podcast, located here http://saveordie.info
